The David Tupman Women in Technology Scholarship has kindly been funded by alumnus David Tupman. The scholarship is intended to encourage and support ambitious young women to undertake a degree in Engineering. The scholarship provides financial support across three years of study, which will also be supported by mentoring and guidance from David Tupman, and a supportive peer network including recipients of the “The David Tupman Engineering Scholarship” offered by the University of Salford.  The scholarship is £3,000 per year of study.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, students must:

1. Identity as female
2. Have made ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ their firm choice for the first year of either the Computer Science BSc (Hons) or Electrical and Electronic Engineering BEng/MEng undergraduate degree programme in the current academic year (not distance learning)
3. Be a home/fee paying student — have a UK Student Support Number (English, Scottish, Welsh, and Northern Irish students)
4. Apply online to be income assessed by Student Finance
5. Demonstrate financial need — household income must indicate that students are eligible for means-tested support from Student Finance with a household income of up to and including £50,000
6. Be paying tuition fees under the new tuition fee regime
7. Be self-funding — your course of study must not be externally funded
8. Hold no other form of donor or university funded scholarship

Terms and conditions

1. This scholarship is not transferrable
2. The data on your student finance record must meet the award edibility criteria. To be able to be fully assessed against the criteria you must:
   1. Complete your student finance application, and it needs to be assessed and approved by your UK student finance authority
   2. Have signed and returned your student declaration form to the SLC
   3. Ensure your relevant UK student finance authority record is available to ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ. Therefore, you must have given permission for your information to be shared with the university
   4. Make sure your parents or sponsors have allowed Student Finance to share their details with ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ
3. Your student record must include your bank details, as ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ pays scholarships directly into student bank accounts. If your record is incomplete, your payment may be delayed or not made
4. The scholarship will be paid in instalments in line with ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ’s normal Scholarship payment schedule, which is once per term
5. If you interrupt your studies or leave ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ before completing your course, any scholarship payments made afterwards will normally need to be repaid
6. If ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ makes a scholarship payment by mistake, or if it is based on false information, the payment will usually have to be repaid by the student
7. If you do not receive a payment, you must contact the Scholarships Team at ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ straight away so we can look into it

Attendance and reporting terms and conditions

1. To continue receiving your scholarship, you must attend your classes and hand in all required assessments
2. You must engage with the requests for progress updates from the scholarship officer. This allows us to provide updates to our donors and share your successes. The requests will be in October, January and May
3. If you do not respond to a request for an update, we will pause payments for the next academic year until we hear from you. Continued lack of response may result in the scholarship being withdrawn
