Speak Out
At ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ we are committed to creating a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for all students, staff and visitors.
A key part of this is our new Speak Our project, a reporting and support service for anyone who has experienced or witnessed sexual misconduct, harassment or hate.
Speak Out is part of our commitment to challenge inappropriate behaviour, provide practical support and ensure that concerns are listened to and responded to appropriately.
You can use Speak Out if you have experienced or witnessed:
- Sexual harassment
- Harassment because of who you are, for instance race, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability
- Sexual violence, including rape and sexual assault
- Hate incidents
- Domestic abuse, including coercive control
- So-called honour-based abuse and forced marriage
- Stalking or unwanted contact
- Abusive language, behaviour or conduct that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment
- Other forms of harassment, discrimination or any unwanted behaviour
Report a concern
If you experience or witness harassment or unwanted behaviour at ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ, speak out by completing our online form.
You can choose to submit a report with your details if you would like support or a response from the University.
You can also submit a report anonymously if you would prefer not to provide your details. While anonymous reports may limit the action the University can take in relation to an individual incident, they help us understand the issues affecting our community, identify trends and improve our support, training and prevention work.
Support available
If you have experienced unwanted behaviour, the Speak Out team can offer advice, guidance and support, including:
- Information about reporting options
- Signposting to specialist services
- Advice around academic support and practical next steps
- Support in understanding available University procedures
Use the online form to access support, or email speak.out@dmu.ac.uk to contact the Speak Out team directly.
The team is available Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5pm when the University is open.
Outside of these hours, please contact ÉëÒ÷Ö®Íõ Security on 0116 257 7642, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Disabled students' allowance
are Government support packages – available to UK students who meet the criteria – designed to pay for the extra costs a student may incur as a result of a disability, medical condition, Specific Learning Difference (SpLD) or mental health condition which impacts on their studies.
DSAs funding is allocated to individual students and not the university and it’s the student’s responsibility to fully engage in the process of applying. Funding can help pay for study related support, including specialist equipment and human support, but it will not pay for:
- Costs a student would have whether or not they were at university
- Non-disability related costs incurred by all students on a particular course
